The Truman Show
What an interesting and unusual idea The Truman Show was! Imagine living your life with the thought that everything was normal and then finding out that it was all a script for a television show. The person who developed this concept is truly a unique and creative individual. However, The Truman Show is still one of the most boring movies of all time.
You might wonder how a movie with such a great story idea could be so boring. The thing is that a great story idea is only one aspect of a movie. A movie might start with a great idea, but then when the script comes in, the casting is over, and the filming wraps, the story might be lost a little. The script is the most important aspect of keeping the story alive. Sure, some actors and actresses add lib here and there, but the main script is usually followed quite closely.
With The Truman Show, the script killed the story. Again, this is a movie that might have worked better in print, as a novel. Jim Carrey was a little strange in the role as well. Had they used someone like Kevin Spacey or someone a little less “hilarious” all in all, it may have gone over differently. However, seeing Jim Carrey as a more serious person was not entertaining and left the audience longing for their old Jim back again. To be fair, Jim Carrey excels in comedies, which is what he should stick with from now on and forever.
