Written and starred in by Steve Carell, this film was meant to be a success from the moment it popped into Steve’s mind. The whole concept is hilarious to begin with. From the cast choices to the delivery of the lines, it is quite a ride from start to finish.

Steve Carell is one of the funniest actors on the Earth. His subtle way of delivering the humor in such a serious manner has made him a huge success. He hit the scene running and never looked back. However, he also keeps his friends close and is said to be a part of one of the elite groups of “funny men” in the business. When actors get into these groups, they often film together and Carell has brought in some friends for The 40 Year Old Virgin as well.
Paul Rudd and Romany Malco are both hilarious in this flick as well as Steve’s fellow employees that want to help him get laid. They both bring a lot to the film and do great in their roles. In addition, Steve’s main love interest in the film is played by Catherine Keener. Keener is a joy to watch in the film and deserves a lot of credit for her previous film work as well, although she is often overlooked for some reason.
Script
Carell did a great job with the writing of the movie. The lines are funny consistently throughout the movie. It keeps you involved and is so good you almost don’t want it to end.
